Dana White has announced his second event with Zuffa Boxing, with the card set to include three former world champions.
Zuffa Boxing’s launch into the sport of boxing gets underway this Friday, but their second event at the Meta Apex is set to feature a host of former world champions.
Dana White and the TKO group have launched into the world of boxing promotion with the intention to shaking up the industry.
Zuffa Boxing’s inaugural event takes place on the 23rd January, headlined by Irish middleweight Callum Walsh and two-time interim title challenger, Carlos Ocampo.
In the build-up to launching Zuffa, White and TKO have made their plans to replicate their UFC model in the world of boxing abundantly clear.
This will include disregarding the current major governing bodies and subsequent titles in the sport, the WBC, WBO, WBA, and IBF.
However, this has been questioned over recent days, after Zuffa Boxing’s new signing Jai Opetaia maintained his desire to chase undisputed success, despite being announced as White’s marquee signing.
Now, it appears as though Opetaia is not the only fighter to have reached world champion status that will feature on Paramount Plus for Zuffa Boxing.
This morning, Zuffa Boxing announced a second event at the Meta Apex headlined by former WBA super-lightweight champion, Jose Valenzuela, who takes on Mexico’s Diego Torres in a 10-round scrap.
In addition to this, esteemed boxing journalist Dan Rafael reports that Serhii Bohachuk will take on former WBA (Regular) welterweight champion Radzhab Butaev in the highlight of the undercard, whilst former WBC light-heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk collides with Radivoje ‘Hot Rod’ Kalajdzic on the same bill.
It is yet to be seen whether these former champions have desires of returning to the top of the governing bodies that they have achieved glory with in the past, or if they now intend to compete solely for Zuffa Boxing and their soon-to-be announced belt.
