Zuffa Boxing announce next card headliner, with Efe Ajagba set to face former heavyweight champion

Zuffa Boxing announce first heavyweight headliner.

With Zuffa Boxing’s first card taking place last week, their second card will feature a headline act of Jose Valenzuela VS. Diego Torres and will be taking place this Sunday.

Now their third card has been announced, with one of the fighters taking centre stage being Efe Ajagba of Nigeria.

Ajagba is 20-1-1 (14 KOs) and is regarded as one of the most dangerous contenders at heavyweight. A 2021 knockout over Brian Howard went somewhat viral online and heavily contributed to Ajagba’s reputation as a dynamite puncher.

It was also in 2021 that Ajagba suffered the first (and so far, only) loss of his career when he took on the then-undefeated Frank Sanchez on the undercard of the all-action trilogy between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.

In that fight, Ajagba was dropped and lost a wide decision. But since then, he has fought his way back into contention, having defeated the unbeaten and powerful Zhan Kossobutskiy (albeit in a disqualification due to a performance from Kossobutskiy that reminded many of Andrew Golota’s two fights with Riddick Bowe), gotten a debated decision over Guido Vianello, and drawn with Martin Bakole in a fight most had Ajagba winning.

But now a heavily rumoured opponent has been officially confirmed for Ajagba’s next fight, and ‘The Silent Roller’ will be taking on an American former heavyweight champion.

This opponent is Charles Martin, who previously held the IBF heavyweight title in a reign that ranks as the second-shortest in history, as he was stopped in his very next fight after winning the belt by Anthony Joshua 85 days later.

Martin is 30-4-1 with 27 KOs, and in the last few years, he has been stopped by Luis Ortiz after dropping him twice and given a tough fight to then-undefeated prospect Jared Anderson.

The rest of the card is yet to be announced.
