Xander Zayas has began training camp as a unification fight with 154lbs star Jaron Ennis is close to being finalised.
Xander Zayas (23-0, 13ko’s) is the sports youngest male unified world champion.
At just 23 years old, Zayas is the WBA and WBO super welterweight champion of the world.
The Puerto Rican is now one of Top Rank’s flagship fighters.
His recent unification victory over Abass Baraou (17-2, 9ko’s) was broadcasted on Top Rank’s social media platforms.
But now, the American promotional giant has signed with broadcasters DAZN.
They join Matchroom Boxing, Queensberry Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions on ‘the global home of boxing’.
Now fans are hoping for cross-promotional mega fights with these promotions all sharing a platform.
It is seeming more and more likely that Top Rank and Matchroom Boxing are set to announce a blockbuster.
Flagship fighter for Matchroom Boxing Jaron Ennis (35-0, 31ko’s) and Zayas are in talks for a unification bout.
The fight is believed to land on a Matchroom lead promotion with New York the desired location.
Xander Zayas has posted to X to share that he has began training camp for his 24th professional bout.
The post is captioned “Camp 24 underway”, with a cryptic boot emoji.
With Jaron Ennis being widely regarded as “Boots”, is this a hint at an imminent announcement.
Boots unified the 147lbs division in 2025, in dominant fashion.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has backed his man to be a pound for pound superstar in the near future.
Philadelphia born, Ennis and his team were deep in negotiations to fight Ring Magazine number one ranked 154lbs Vergil Ortiz Jr (24-0, 22ko’s).
Due to no fault of team Ennis, the fight fell through.
A major fallout between Ortiz Jr’s manager and promoter turned legal, and has left Ortiz Jr’s career in no mans land for now.
Whilst Ennis undoubtedly wanted the Vergil Ortiz Jr fight, an opportunity to become a two weight unified champion would be legacy defining
