British world champion to potentially make first defence on Joshua undercard.
A large percentage of boxing fans were introduced to Kristian Prenga the moment it was announced that he would be Anthony Joshua’s next opponent.
An Albanian with all 20 of his wins by knockout and only a single defeat, Prenga’s record suggests he will be a challenging foe. However, there is not much related to his résumé for anyone to provide a solid case for him to beat the British superstar.
Though Joshua is coming off the most horrid event of his life, and that will have undoubtedly left a mark on him. How big of a mark that is will be answered with how he performs against Prenga.
So far, nothing has been announced for the undercard of Joshua vs. Prenga (which is due to take place in just over two months), but we now have an idea of what might be featured on it.
On Friday, Eddie Hearn did an interview with Pro Boxing Fans, and upon being asked if there was a date for the rumoured IBF super-welterweight title fight between Josh Kelly and Caoimhin Agyarko, he replied, “Not yet, no. Potentially on the AJ card and potentially in Newcastle in August.”
Kelly won the IBF title in a big upset over Bakhram Murtazaliev in January, and his first defence was expected to be decided by a final eliminator between Agyarko and Brandon Adams.
When Adams collapsed on the week of the fight, the contest was pulled, and it was thought that both Agyarko and his opponent would have to wait a little bit longer for their big opportunity.
However, while Adams has since been ordered to fight Murtazaliev in a new eliminator, Agyarko has seemingly sidestepped that process entirely and will likely be getting his title shot in the next few months.
Whether that will headline its own event or feature amongst the supporting cast to the Joshua fight will likely be answered fairly soon.
