Wembley to potentially stage Fury vs. Joshua after all.
There has likely never been as big of a battle between two Britons in boxing as the long-awaited heavyweight match that is Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua.
Because of this, it was always rightly assumed that if the fight ever did take place, the United Kingdom was the only country that could host it.
Only, following a series of developments over the course of this year, Madison Square Garden in New York would eventually emerge as the frontrunner to stage the event, something that did not sit right with the vast majority of those in the boxing world.
One person who absolutely refused to accept the reality of an all-British superfight being staged in the United States is Eddie Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing who has served as Joshua’s promoter throughout the entirety of his professional career.
Hearn went as far as stating that if the bout was made official for America, then it would not go ahead. However, it then came out that he had sent an addendum to Sela that included a list of demands for the U.S. to be the hosts.
However, following the recent news that London mayor Sadiq Khan made a plea for the bout to be staged in England’s capital, Wembley Stadium has now reemerged as the venue for the event to possibly take place in.
This has now received an exponential boost, as earlier today, Eddie Hearn confirmed on social media that talks for Fury vs. Joshua to be at Wembley have officially reopened, something that will arrive as a source of extreme relief to fans of boxing across Britain as a whole.
All in all, it has to be said that the Matchroom boss never stopped fighting for what he–and the vast majority in the world of pugilism–believed was right.
