WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman is set to reward the winner of Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24ko’s) is returning to the ring on April 11th for the first time in what will be over 15 months.
The former two time heavyweight champion of the world is taking on the Russian Arslanbek Makhmudov (21-2, 19ko’s) live on Netflix in the United Kingdom.
In 2024, Tyson Fury suffered consecutive defeats to all time great Oleksandr Usyk, with the Gypsy King announcing his retirement from the sport in the aftermath of the second defeat.
With retirements being a common theme of Fury’s entertaining career, fight fans never truly believed that Fury was gone for good.
Fury seems to have re-found his love for the sport once again, and has been training in Thailand.
The former WBC champion has expressed his desire to fight three times in 2026.
Fury has been an ambassador for the WBC, with his trilogy against Deontay Wilder for the green and gold belt being one of the sports most iconic rivalries in recent times.
The WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has addressed Fury’s return when speaking to Sky Sports.
Sulaiman stated: “As a former champion, he has rights and privileges and absolutely I am sure the winner will be highly ranked in the WBC.
“[Makhmudov] was a WBC International and Silver champion, he’s solid, strong. To come back from a long layoff out the ring, it’s an interesting challenge for Fury.
“Tyson Fury is Tyson Fury. He’s a sensational ambassador for boxing, great fighter, he has a tremendous following and I’m very excited.
“His life without boxing is not the same and it’s going to be a good solid challenge to see him back in boxing and I’m very happy for him.”
Defeating Makhmudov and regaining a high ranking with the WBC will open doors to a plethora of monumental fights for Fury.
Whether it’s a trilogy with Usyk that Fury has publicly desired, or a fight for a vacant belt if and when Usyk vacates, when the Gypsy King is fighting three things are guaranteed, chaos, entertainment, and a brilliant build up.
