Oleksandr Usyk has approval to fight the American superstar by the WBC.

Three time undisputed champion of the world and current WBC, IBF and WBA champion Oleksandr Usyk defeated Daniel Dubois by knockout in the 5th round in his last outing at Wembley Stadium.

Since moving up in weight to heavyweight, Usyk has been on a war path through the division.

The Ukrainian has defeated a British contingent of heavyweight superstars, this run of wins includes Anthony Joshua twice, Tyson Fury twice, and the heavy handed Daniel Dubois twice.

With the 39 year old nearing the end of a remarkable career, team Usyk are eyeing a mega fight to complete the set of defeating this generations most dominant heavyweights.

Oleksandr Usyk has no blemishes on his record, with the Ukrainian set to go down as one of the most dominant heavyweights of all time.

And now it seems that the World Boxing Council (WBC) are willing to accommodate a request from Usyk in respect of who he will fight next.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has approved Oleksandr Usyk to fight heavyweight star Deontay Wilder in a voluntary defence.

Speaking to Sky Sports Boxing, Sulaiman has stated he is “absolutely hoping to see him [Usyk] back in the ring.

“He requested to the WBC to make a voluntary defence which was granted and we’re waiting for the details of his upcoming fight.

“Deontay Wilder was champion for five years of the WBC, he is a tremendous force, he has great punching power. He is ranked by the WBC, so absolutely he is eligible and welcome to fight Usyk in a voluntary title defence.”

It therefore appears that the WBC are looking to get Ring Magazines Pound for Pound number 1 to fight Deontay Wilder next.

The Bronze Bomber has widely been regarded as one of the most devastating punchers that the sport has ever seen.

Despite facing defeat in 4 of his last 6 fights, the former WBC World Champion is still one of the most recognised names in American Boxing.

From his perspective, Oleksandr Usyk has previously declared his desire to box in America, with the Ukrainian superstar also stating that Wilder is the only one of the big three (Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, and Deontay Wilder) that remains for him to fight in his career.

Rumours have sparked that have suggested that this fight may take place in San Fransisco in a potential iVB backed mega event, however team Oleksandr Usyk sources have stated that no deals have been finalised at this stage.

If the fight does indeed go ahead, it may be the last chance for Deontay Wilder to reclaim his spot as the number one heavyweight boxer in the world.

Fight fans will be looking forward to seeing a confirmation of this fight coming soon.
