Vasily Lomachenko ends retirement

Mike Coppinger from The Ring Magazine has announced Vasily Lomachenko’s return to the sport following a two year hiatus.

One of the best of all time is back, and Vasily Lomachenko is only interested in big fights.

The Ukrainian has achieved plenty in the pro ranks, but he’s most known for his stellar amateur career.

396-1 as an amateur, two time Olympic gold, and plenty plenty more.

Lomachenko became WBO world featherweight champion in just his third professional fight, defeating Gary Russell Jr by majority decision.

Defeats have only come at the highest level, against the likes of Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez.

It has officially ticked over the two year mark since Lomachenko’s last professional outing.

May 12 2024 saw Loma stop George Kambosos Jr to become IBF world lightweight champion.

Retirement ensued in the aftermath of failed negotiations for a fight with Gervonta Davis, with back problems causing the genius issues.

Now at 38 years old, the southpaw is raring to make a spectacular return, with big fights on the horizon.

His promotional contract with Top Rank has now officially expired and he is now a promotional free agent.

With rumours of a return to the ring for Gervonta Davis, could this be a potential mega fight for 2026?

The holder of his former belt the IBF lightweight title goes by the name of Raymond Muratalla.

Muratalla successfully defended his world title this January against former Olympic gold medallist Andy Cruz.
