Frank Warren tells that Fury’s next fight will be unveiled this week.
The many-times-retired Tyson Fury came out of his most recent absence from the sport last month, performing a dominant outboxing of Russian puncher Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Of course, Fury winning was expected, and him doing so in one-sided fashion was unsurprising. What boxing fans were wondering most was who “The Gypsy King” would be facing next.
We seemingly got our answer when the Manchester titan called out Anthony Joshua, who was ringside on the night. But once everything had quietened down, the certainty of the contest was still in doubt.
Then it was announced that Joshua would be facing Kristian Prenga, an Albanian puncher only known to boxing’s most die-hard fans. And not long later, it was stated that Fury would also be taking a tune-up before his collision with his fellow Englishman went down.
Talks of Jarrell Miller and Andy Ruiz Jr. possibly being the opponent have gone around, but it seems like it won’t be either American who will be facing Fury.
However, it seemingly won’t be long before we find out just who it is.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Sunday, Queensberry Promotions boss Frank Warren stated, “We’ll hopefully be in a position to announce it next week. That’s what we’re looking to do.
“So, keep watching this space, and it’ll be a good opponent. It’ll be good for him [Fury]. He can’t afford to slip up, because obviously, AJ’s got his fight in a few weeks’ time.
“[Joshua’s] got to come through that, Tyson has to come through his, and then the big one will be in November.”
Fury’s return to the ring is expected to be officially announced for the 1st of August, just a week before Moses Itauma’s slated next outing.
