Fury vs. Joshua to probably take place at historic U.S. venue.
The fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is one boxing fans have never been entirely sure will take place. Even now, with the likelihood seeming as big as ever, there are still those who don’t believe we will ever see the two share the same ring.
If that happens to be the case, Fury vs. Joshua will go down as one of the biggest missing chapters in boxing history, the one that got away. This would be quite similar to Lennox Lewis vs. Riddick Bowe, another big-man fight that never was.
And while neither man is in his prime any longer, the money and profile attached to their names render this a complete non-issue. Yes, it would ultimately have been better had the two squared off for the undisputed crown, but the business side of the sport is not likely to know the difference if/when the matchup gets put together.
Regardless, it is still a fight between two British superstars at the end of the day. So, whether or not the bout did end up coming about, it was considered a given that it would be in the pair’s shared homeland.
Only, it doesn’t seem that that will be the case, and that has been so virtually ever since the proposed time of November was revealed.
The SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles was in the running to stage it recently, but then there were hopes of it being at Wembley Stadium at a time to suit American audiences.
But after it was recently revealed that New York was the most likely location, reports are now stating that Fury-Joshua will probably be taking place at Madison Square Garden.
Known as the “Mecca of Boxing”, the venue has hosted countless high-profile events in the sport, including Joshua’s defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019.
Should the all-British battle take place there, it would be only the second event hosted at MSG to not feature a fighter from the Americas, the first being Vasiliy Lomachenko’s 2021 bout against Richard Commey.
Joshua-Fury almost certain to land in the U.S., with Madison Square Garden the front runner, multiple sources confirm to @SInow. Netflix, which has steered this, has targeted a few Friday night dates, sources say.
