Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua to potentially be approved as eliminator

Fury vs. Joshua to potentially be world title eliminator.

It almost–almost–seems too good to be true, but we can finally say that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua appear to be getting ready to meet each other in the same ring in a professional boxing match.

And this time, when we articulate that sentiment, it no longer appears to be fanciful, unrealistic, or any form of wishful thinking.

No. Rather, it very much seems to be the reality–our reality–or at least, very close to being so.

It has looked to be this way since earlier this year, but with the news earlier today that both Fury and Joshua have signed the contracts for their showdown, it seems to be all the more true.

Unfortunately for many people in the sport, the all-U.K. showdown is essentially confirmed to be happening at Madison Square Garden. Regardless, the bout is still undoubtedly huge.

That is even despite the fact that neither man will be entering the ring with a world title. And even though that is the case, a shot at a world title could very well be in the grasp of the winner.

When asked if he would sanction the bout as a title eliminator, Mauricio Sulaiman (president of the WBC) stated to Betway Insider, “That would be sensational. The WBC would absolutely approve that as a final eliminator, because Tyson Fury is the number-one contender of the division, and the WBC absolutely would be proud to be part of that promotion.

“Both fighters are tremendous. Tyson Fury is one of the greatest ambassadors ever of the WBC. We are so proud. He has always been very friendly–very kind–inside and outside of the ring.”

The WBC champion at heavyweight is Agit Kabayel, whose first title defence is thought to be in the works.
