Fury to be outweighed by almost 30 pounds.
Throughout his career, Tyson Fury has weighed in at the upper reaches of 200 pounds. Standing at 6’9″, he is a obviously a huge unit all around.
In fact, he is the second-largest heavyweight world champion in history, with only Nikolai Valuev having been taller and heavier.
At his very heaviest, he weighed in for the Oleksandr Usyk rematch at 281 pounds. With such figures, it’s no surprise that “The Gypsy King” hasn’t been the lighter man very often.
In fact, the Manchester man-mountain has only been outweighed on two previous occasions, those being his first fight with John McDermott and his first fight with Derek Chisora.
On those nights, Fury was the smaller fighter in the ring by 5½ and 6 pounds, respectively. But as far as who his heaviest opponent was? That would actually be Francis Ngannou, who came in at 272 pounds for their curious clash in late 2023.
However, Fury now has a new heaviest opponent, bringing with him a weight advantage that the Lancashire star has never had to deal with before.
Tomorrow night, Fury will be fighting Mariusz Wach, a Polish gatekeeper in his late 40s who has fought many big names of the division.
The affair is a charity event in Thailand, one that will see Fury reportedly fighting for free as the final warm-up to his blockbuster showdown against Anthony Joshua later this year.
After stepping on the scales earlier today, Fury came in at 265 pounds, a relatively trim figure for the former two-time heavyweight champion.
Wach, however, came in at 291.4 pounds, meaning he will enjoy a 26.4-pound weight advantage. Fury has never fought someone heavier or been outweighed by nearly this much.
So, in a fight that is universally regarded as a foregone conclusion, at least there is something unique about it.
