Tyson Fury to fight for free

Fury to fight Wach for no purse.

In April, Tyson Fury came back to the ring against Arslanbek Makhmudov, his first contest since his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, which was over a year prior.

It was thought that this fight would be Fury’s last before a mega event against Anthony Joshua, the all-British affair every boxing fan has been wanting to see for a number of years.

However, once Joshua’s own warm-up bout against Kristian Prenga was announced, it became a point of concern that Fury would likely not be fighting Joshua until November.

This meant the Manchester man would be out of action for 7 months, which isn’t ideal going into such a big fight. And so, rumours stated that Fury would be having yet another warm-up, potentially in August on the undercard of Pierce O’Leary vs. Mark Chamberlain.

The opponent was never certain, but it was thought that Albania’s undefeated Nelson Hysa was in the running. However, we now know that that isn’t who Fury will be fighting.

Instead, his foe on the night will be Mariusz Wach, and it is set to take place in Thailand the day prior to Joshua’s comeback.

Even more surprising is some additional information that has been revealed regarding the event. Specifically, “The Gypsy King” will apparently not be taking a purse for the fight, with all profits going towards children’s charities in Thailand.

Additionally, less than 1,500 people will be able to attend the event, and despite the official poster suggesting otherwise, it will not be streamed on Netflix.

All in all, this is a set of very unique aspects to a fight coupled with a big dose of generosity from the former heavyweight champion of the world.
