“The Gypsy King” has provided a worrying update on his fight with Anthony Joshua.
Nothing is ever certain in boxing. Absolutely nothing. As fans of this chaotic sport, we know that very well, and it is a sentiment we keep in the back of our minds to dull any disappointment that comes our way as a result of any of the crazy happenings in this entirely unpredictable profession.
To those outside of the sport, constantly bracing for disappointment could be seen as cynical. However, it is often required because of how boxing works.
But still, even people who are prepared to be disappointed can hope. And much like in the ring, when you let your guard down and start hoping, you get hit with something that you would have much rather seen coming. In other words, even if you are prepared, your hopes can be dashed.
Take Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua, for example. It is a matchup we have been wanting for years–almost a decade, in fact–yet whether or not it will take place is still up in the air.
That is because in spite of some major recent developments, the location has still not been agreed upon. With the frontrunner looking to be Madison Square Garden, this bout between two stars from the United Kingdom could very well take place in the United States.
Eddie Hearn (Joshua’s promoter at Matchroom Boxing) has pushed against this, with it being revealed yesterday that he sent a list of demands to Sela for the fight to take place in New York.
And despite stating earlier this week that the fight was close to being confirmed, Tyson Fury took to Instagram today to unleash an expletive-laden rant on Hearn and Joshua.
In it, he stated that the fight “doesn’t look like it’s gonna happen”, as Fury claimed, “Eddie Hearn and that [Joshua] want more money.”
In the video, Fury referred to Hearn and his fighter as “flea-bitten rats” and “money-thirsty pieces of sh*t” in an absolutely relentless verbal tyrade.
