Tyson Fury is contractually signed to face arch rival Anthony Joshua next says hall of fame promoter Frank Warren.
The boxing world didn’t get the official announcement everyone was hoping for, but it seems we’re as close as we’ve ever been to seeing Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua.
There wasn’t a faceoff, but we got a verbal exchange.
Understandably the Gypsy King was fired up after a shutout points win over Arslanbek Makhmudov (21-3, 19ko’s).
In true Fury style he subsequently called out AJ to fight next.
A composed Joshua responded stating “I’m the boss, I’m the landlord”.
We’re close, but we’re not there just yet.
It’s a fight that has been talked about for a decade, it’s more than boxing, and should it happen it’ll be one of British sports biggest spectacles.
Promoter of Tyson Fury Frank Warren has spoke to talkSPORT to reveal their contractual stance.
Warren stated: “His excellency asked Fury to call him out on the mic”.
“Tyson has signed up for this fight, he signed up for the fight at Spurs, and the next fight is supposed to be against AJ in August or September”.
“AJ hasn’t signed it”.
The deal that Fury signed was prior to the tragic events that occurred in Nigeria last December, which resulted in AJ’s close friends Latz and Sina sadly losing their lives.
Understandably, the man from Watford has took some time to recover both physically and mentally from these events before thinking about boxing again.
Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Joshua is now back in training camp with team Usyk in Valencia, and a return is imminent.
It is likely that Joshua will take a warm-up fight before entertaining an eagerly anticipated showdown with his fellow Brit.
The level opponent for that is unknown and it is likely that talks are moving at extreme pace behind the scenes with Turki Al-Sheikh and SELA to lay out the roadmap.
