Fury announces date and location of next fight.
It’s been known for a while now that Tyson Fury will be taking a warm-up fight before his expected clash with long-time rival Anthony Joshua later this year.
Having returned from an extended absence just last month, Fury defeated Arslanbek Makhmudov in a dominant performance that showed “The Gypsy King” still had plenty left to offer.
Initially, it was thought that that would be his final fight before the Joshua blockbuster, but not long after Joshua’s warm-up against Kristian Prenga was announced, it was revealed that Fury would be making another appearance in the ring.
This was likely due to the fact that he would have been inactive for 7 months otherwise (the Joshua fight is being slated for November), and while we don’t know who Fury will be fighting yet, we know it will be an opponent of some merit.
Last week, former professional footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović seemed to announce that he would be the former two-time champion’s opponent, though that news was quite predictably not accurate.
What seems to be accurate, though, is the date that was given for Fury’s return.
In a new video posted to social media, the Manchester man filmed himself running in Thailand before teasing a date of the 1st of August in Dublin, Ireland.
Aside from being the week after Joshua’s comeback, this date and location happens to be the same as the Queensberry Promotions event featuring Pierce O’Leary’s IBO super-lightweight title fight with Mark Chamberlain as the main event.
This raises the question of where exactly Fury’s return will feature on the bill, for it is almost unfathomable to think of him on anyone’s undercard.
We should be finding out soon, as it is being reported that Fury’s return is set to be officially announced this week.
