Ahead of Tyson Fury’s return to the ring, the Gypsy King has shared his thoughts on last weekend’s war between Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora.
You could argue there is no one more qualified to share their opinion than Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24ko’s) on Saturday’s all out war between Derek Chisora (36-14, 24ko’s) and Deontay Wilder (45-4-1, 42ko’s).
The Gypsy King shared the ring with both men three times each.
It was the man from Alabama’s night on Saturday, with Wilder’s hand being raised on a split decision victory.
Certainly it wasn’t pretty or the sweet science, but both men gave their all in what is set to be Chisora’s final fight of an 18 year career.
Remarkably for Wilder, it now seems the show may just go on.
Arch rival Anthony Joshua (29-4, 27ko’s) was ringside and the long-awaited matchup now seems a possibility once again.
Despite being victorious on Saturday, Wilder is still widely considered as past his best at age 42.
His former foe Tyson Fury has shared his thoughts on what occurred at the O2 Arena in London.
Speaking on Inside The Ring, Fury stated:
“After watching Deontay and Chisora the other night, it was hard to watch for me. It was sad.
“Heartbreaking. I’d never seen two men slide as much in my life as them two. I’m thinking, am I f***ing next? Is this me?”
“I said to the boys, if I’m even 10% as bad as those guys in my fight, take me out to the field and shoot me. Put me out to pasture.”
“By the time the fight comes around on Saturday, I’ll have been out the ring 16 months.
“At 37 years old, 16 months is a long time. I have a little bit of stuff to think about in my own mind and see how I am”.
Fury returns this Saturday against Arslanbek Makhmudov (22-2, 18ko’s) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Whilst Fury’s last two fights have ended in defeats, there was undoubtedly a lot to be impressed by in these showings.
A lot of questions will be answered in North London this weekend regarding Fury’s future at the pinnacle of the sport.
