Tyson Fury defeats Mariusz Wach in Thailand

Fury defeats Wach to potentially set up Joshua bout.

Today, at the Max Muaythai Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand, Tyson Fury faced Polish gatekeeper Mariusz Wach in a charity event that “The Gypsy King” will reportedly not be earning a purse for.

A tough veteran who has faced many names in the heavyweight division, Wach weighed in yesterday at over 290 pounds, holding the distinction of being the heaviest opponent of Fury’s career.

However, that proved to have little impact on the fight itself, as Fury had very minimal difficulty with his foe in predictably defeating him inside of the distance.

Long considered a hard man to put away, Fury made Wach retire on his stool after 7 rounds, becoming only the second person (alongside Moses Itauma) to stop the Pole in the last four years.

This result also provided Fury with his first stoppage win since December of 2022, on which occasion he defeated Derek Chisora by 10th-round TKO in their trilogy fight for the WBC heavyweight title.

Given the vast disparity in levels between them, Fury winning was never in much doubt at all. The former two-time world ruler was a giant favourite to deal with the experienced 46-year-old.

Now that he has, the Mancunian has upheld his end of the deal in winning his warm-up bout before an expected November blockbuster against British rival Anthony Joshua.

Joshua is set to have his own warm-up tomorrow night, scheduled to take on puncher Kristian Prenga of Albania.

Should Joshua get through that affair with little fuss, his date with Fury is thought to be all but secured.
