Turki Alalshikh fires back at Eddie Hearn

Turki Alalshikh makes comment on Matchroom boss.

Riyadh Season’s 2023 entry into the sport of boxing set a precedent for big spectacles and long-awaited matchups being made.

Were it not for the Saudi Arabians’ grand vision, we would not have seen fights between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, Terence Crawford and Canelo Álvarez, etcetera.

This was all thanks to Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority. One thing Turki did is broker peace between Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren.

Previously bitter rivals, the two biggest promoters in Britain have since formed an alliance with each other, with Queensberry Promotions shows now appearing on DAZN.

It was with the combined forces of Queensberry and Matchroom Boxing that Turki was able to put on huge shows involving fighters from the respective rosters of each stable.

However, that partnership seems to have come to an end as far as Queensberry is concerned. Recently, Frank Warren launched a billion-dollar legal case against Sela, Saudu Arabia’s entertainment and hospitality company.

Queensberry alleged that Sela had “gone behind its back” and utilised privileged information in the forming of Zuffa Boxing, Dana White’s new promotion.

Not long after this story broke, it was revealed that Don King had also filed a lawsuit against Sela (amongst others) regarding the failed Michael Hunter vs. Jarrell Miller fight.

With all this occurring, it would seem that Matchroom are one of the only ones left who are still on good terms with Turki.

Perhaps Turki himself recognises this, because while speaking to The Ring, he has been quoted as saying, “Eddie [Hearn], come and put your head on the chest of your father. I will give you a warm hug. The world is filled with evil people.”
