Tasman Fighters have took to X to reveal that Turki Al-Sheikh has plans to make Jai Opetaia vs David Benavidez.
Cruiserweight has been a division on the cusp of exploding into stardom over recent years.
Since all time great Oleksandr Usyk left the division in his heavyweight quest, the division has lacked star power, that is until now.
David Benavidez became a three weight world champion and the unified WBA and WBO cruiserweight world champion earlier this month.
He dethroned Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez, but there’s still another man out there who has a valid case for being the king at 200lbs.
That is Jai Opetaia.
The unbeaten Australian has had an extraordinary, yet turbulent run in recent years.
Two wins over Mairis Breidis are of significant note, but outside that Opetaia has not been able to achieve that goal of undisputed.
In fact, he currently does not even own one of the four recognised world titles.
The Ring Magazine cruiserweight world champion was stripped by the IBF due to fighting for the Zuffa Boxing belt.
Signing with Dana White and Zuffa raised a lot of eyebrows.
It’s safe to say Zuffa’s relationship with the governing bodies is nothing short of frosty, so many thought the time to see Opetaia have his opportunity at undisputed had passed.
However, if one man can make it happen, it is Turki Al-Sheikh.
Opetaia’s management team and Australian promotional outfit Tasman Fighters have took to X to post:
“Turki to make Opetaia vs Benavidez”.
“Turki to unleash the best in 2026”.
On the surface, a clash between these two undefeated stars is one of the best fights in the sport.
With Benavidez being with PBC, and Opetaia with Zuffa, this will likely headline a Ring Magazine event.
