Tony Yoka reportedly fighting on Allen-Hrgovic undercard.
Tony Yoka was set to take on Lawrence Okolie towards the end of this April in his hometown of Paris, France. It was a fight that was going to prove the former Olympic gold medallist’s true level after rebounding from a series of defeats with a four-fight win streak.
However, disaster struck when it was announced that Okolie had failed a drug test on the week of the fight, the Englishman having tested positive for GHRP-2 (a PHD that results in the stimulation of human growth hormone amongst other things).
Though a replacement opponent was initially sought, the entire event would ultimately be cancelled, and Yoka was left without a fight date.
It was heavily rumoured that he would appear on the Fabio Wardley vs. Daniel Dubois undercard following Jared Anderson’s withdrawal from his fight with Solomon Dacres, and it was also speculated that he could serve as Anthony Joshua’s comeback opponent afterwards.
Both things would end up not happening, and Yoka was seemingly just as without answers as we were. However, it was recently reported that he would be appearing on this Saturday’s Dave Allen vs. Filip Hrgovic undercard in a warm-up bout.
Even that wasn’t without its problems, though. Yoka was going to face Dan Garber, a gatekeeper from Bradford who has fought the likes of Moses Itauma, Hughie Fury, Leo Atang, Viddal Riley, Matty Harris, and Thomas Carty.
However, the British Boxing Board of Control refused to sanction the fight, owing to the gap in skill between them being deemed too significant. As a result, it is presently unknown who Yoka’s opponent will be on the night.
More importantly, it isn’t clear if Yoka will still appear on the card, though there has been no official statement regarding the situation as a whole.
Either way, it has not been a smooth few weeks for the Frenchman.
