Tommy Fury to face massive weight disadvantage against surprise return opponent

Tommy Fury to face massively heavier opponent.

Tommy Fury is the brother of former two-time heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury. Unlike his superstar sibling, however, Tommy has never appeared at the world level of boxing.

Rather, he has become popular for somewhat niche spectacles of the sport. Sideshow attractions, if you will.

Tommy is known for being the first man to beat social media personalities Jake Paul and KSI in the ring, as well as for his appearance on the reality TV show Love Island.

Outside of his wins over Paul and KSI, Tommy’s boxing résumé consists mostly of fighters with losing records. And for this, he has often been criticised.

To his credit, though, Tommy himself has said that he is not his brother. He knows his level, and the novelty bouts he has appeared in are what have made him as popular as he is.

Tommy was scheduled to fight former UFC fighter Darren Till on a Misfits Boxing show in early 2025, but pulled out after Till threatened to resort to MMA tactics should he start losing.

Since that bout’s cancellation, Tommy has scored a decision win over the 5-1 Kenan Hanjalic. Though he is a career cruiserweight, that fight took place at heavyweight, with Tommy weighing in at 208 pounds.

His next opponent is set to be someone over 120 pounds heavier than that.

Strongman Eddie Hall has not boxed professionally, but he did engage in a high-profile 2022 exhibition against fellow strongman Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson.

That was a fight Hall lost by decision, having been dropped twice after officially scoring a knockdown himself. Since then, Hall has fought in MMA, last weighing in at 334 pounds for his 30-second win over Mariusz Pudzianowski.

During his strongman heyday, however (during which Hall became a two-time England’s Strongest Man, five-time Britain’s Strongest Man, and six-time UK’s Strongest Man winner), Hall recorded a peak weight of around 434 pounds.

Whatever the man who once held the deadlift world record weighs in at, he is guaranteed to be well over 100 pounds heavier than Tommy Fury.

This monstrous disparity in mass could potentially set the record for the biggest weight difference in a professional boxing match, seemingly currently held by Fabio Wardley’s 7th professional contest against the 352-pound Dennis Lewandowski, a weight difference of 119½ pounds.

Tommy Fury and Eddie Hall are expected to lock horns on a Misfits Boxing show on DAZN pay-per-view. The bout is reported to get underway on the 13th of June at the AO Arena in Manchester.
