UFC heavyweight champion signs with Matchroom.
Eddie Hearn has officially announced on his personal Instagram that UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has signed with Matchroom.
After Dana White signed Conor Benn (24-1, 14ko’s) a couple of weeks ago, the boxing world was left speechless.
Very few fighter relationships were as tightknit as Eddie Hearn and Conor Benn.
From debut, the pair battled adversity together and Conor Benn was finally in a place as one of the biggest stars of the sport.
Dana White and Zuffa Boxing unveiling Benn highlighted a potential major power shift in the sport.
Zuffa is financially backed by the powerhouses of Turki Al-Sheikh and SELA.
They plan to takeover the sport and replicate their UFC model that has seen so much success.
Naturally, this has come with major scrutiny from the existing parties in boxing, especially Eddie Hearn.
The boxing world was waiting for Hearn to land a blow back, and now this has certainly landed.
The brand new entity of Matchroom Sport, Matchroom Talent Agency has signed UFC Heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.
The British powerhouse is one of Dana White’s prize assets.
Tom Aspinall has stated:
“I’m really excited to welcome Eddie and the Matchroom Sport group in a commercial and advisory role”.
“Eddie has built one of the biggest brands in Sport and understands how to take athletes to the next level, both inside and outside of competition”.
“I’m really looking forward to working together and exploring some exciting opportunities as I continue my journey back into the cage”.
More details of this partnership will follow in tomorrows press conference.
Will this be the start of Matchroom’s venture into MMA, or will Aspinall entered the squared circle in the near future?
