The big fight preview: Conor Benn vs Regis Prograis

Conor Benn begins his move back down in weight as he takes on Regis Prograis in the co-main event of Fury-Makhmudov

It is the famous ‘one fight deal’ under Zuffa Boxing for Conor Benn (24-1, 14ko’s) this Saturday as he faces former WBC super-lightweight world champion Regis Prograis (30-3, 24ko’s).

The bout co-main events Fury-Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but how have we got here?

2025 was the year Conor Benn put all his troubles behind him, with back to back sold out stadium fights against arch rival Chris Eubank Jr (35-4, 25ko’s).

A dominant rematch victory in November put the rivalry to bed for now, and all sights were set on world championship honours back down at welterweight.

In February however, Benn did the unthinkable.

A shock move from Matchroom Boxing to Zuffa Boxing left the sporting world speechless, but as the details came out, it all made a bit more sense.

Swiftly after, Benn-Prograis got announced.

Benn will be making a reported $15 million for this fight, a fight with no world title ramifications at a catchweight of 150lbs.

Will it be just this one fight with Zuffa, we don’t know, but one thing is for sure is that ‘the destroyer’ must shine on Saturday night if he wants to fight for that coveted green and gold welterweight belt.

For years now, Conor Benn has expressed his desire to follow in his dads footsteps and win the WBC world title, and he is now closer than ever.

Despite not fighting at welterweight in close to four years, Benn is mandatory for WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20ko’s).

The 29 year old will look to use his youth, his size, and his explosive nature back down at his natural weight on Saturday, but what will he be up against?

Prograis carries the experience and the pedigree being a former world champion.

The American has fought some of the very best down at super lightweight, including Devin Haney, Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall.

At 37, many are wondering what Prograis has left in the tank, and more importantly, is Prograis fit to fight?

Rumours have been heavily circulating around a potential knee injury for the southpaw, with Eddie Hearn supporting this theory.

During fight week the man New Orleans has denied these allegations, labelling Hearn as “salty” due to his lack of involvement in the fight.

He will be fighting at a career high weight, and the experts believe the size and youth of the Brit will see him over the line in his third successive fight in North London.

Carl Froch on his channel Froch on Fighting has backed Conor “to do the job and get the stoppage within six rounds”.

Barry Jones on the Betfred Boxing Show has backed Conor Benn for an underwhelming points victory decision, whilst his co-hosts Andy Clarke and Rob Tebbutt have backed the Brit to secure stoppage victories over the man that’s never been stopped before.

Will the Benn train keep rolling on or has Regis Prograis got enough left in the tank for one last career defining victory?
