Former pound for pound number one Terence Crawford has declared the one man to beat American starlet Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.
Once upon a time Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (35-0, 31ko’s) and Terence Crawford (42-0, 31ko’s) were being framed as future rivals for a 154lbs clash.
The man from Omaha had other plans.
Crawford hung the gloves up in late 2025, shortly after a career defining victory over Canelo Alvarez (63-3-2, 39ko’s), becoming the undisputed super middleweight world champion.
Not only has his retirement left the 168lbs ranks fragmented, his absence from super-welterweight has put number one status in the division up for grabs.
Super-welterweight is one of the sports hottest divisions in recent months.
The falling through of Jaron Ennis vs Vergil Ortiz Jr has been brushed to the side with yesterdays major announcement.
The fight scheduled for June 27 at the Barclays Center will give Boots the opportunity to become a two weight unified world champion.
Despite Boots being heavily backed to become America’s next star, Terence Crawford has revealed the man to put the first blemish on the record of the man from Philadelphia.
When asked on X who would be victorious between Ennis and current WBC super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora (24-1-1, 16ko’s), Crawford backed “Fundora”.
Fundora is the sports tallest world champion, so operating at super welterweight is remarkable.
Standing at 6ft 5 inches tall, the southpaw made a third successive defence of his WBC world title on the weekend, dominating the game Keith Thurman (31-2, 23ko’s).
Nicknamed ‘The Towering Inferno’, Fundora seems fairly comfortable at 154lbs despite his size and reach.
If Boots was to overcome Xander Zayas this June, a potential further unification bout between Jaron Ennis and Sebastian Fundora could be one of the biggest nights of the American boxing schedule.
