Team Manny Pacquiao break silence over Floyd Mayweather rematch doubts

The CEO of Manny Pacquiao promotions has took to Instagram to respond to Floyd Mayweather’s comments about the rematch set for September 19th.

The rematch between Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27ko’s) and Manny Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39ko’s) was officially announced by Netflix in February.

In 2015, Mayweather defeated Pacquiao via unanimous decision in an event that still holds the record for the most PPV buys in the history of boxing, 4.6 million.

‘Money’ Mayweather ended an illustrious career in professional boxing at the very top in 2017, stopping Conor McGregor.

Despite returning to the ring on a number of occasions since, Mayweather has not put his prestigious unbeaten record on the line, only returning in exhibition bouts.

However, this all seemed like it was about to change.

Netflix have billed the rematch as a professional bout.

It is scheduled September 19 at the Sphere.

Just this weekend however, Mayweather has casted a shade of doubt over the fight.

Speaking to Vegas Sport, Mayweather stated:

“The Sphere is one of the places that they talked about, so we don’t know if it’s 100% going to be there”.

“It’s not actually a fight, it’s an exhibition. We’re going to do it again and hopefully entertain the people.”

A large portion of the traction this fight generated was due to the fact it was billed as a professional fight, and the jeopardy that brings.

The man from the Philippines made his official return to the sport in 2025.

Pacquiao challenged for the WBC welterweight world championship last July against Mario Barrios (29-3-2, 18ko’s).

The outcome was a majority draw, with Pacquiao narrowly missing out on making history.

His full focus has shifted to getting revenge on his former foe, and his team have responded to Mayweather’s recent claims regarding fight details.

Jas Mathur, CEO of Manny Pacquiao Promotions stated via Instagram:

“Men lie, women lie, executed binding agreements don’t”.

It seems team Pacquiao are very confident that everything is in place for this spectacle set for September.

With the conflicting statements from either party, an official update is expected this week.
