Spencer Brown talks of Sheeraz’s upcoming title shot on Riyadh event.
Hamzah Sheeraz is one of the best young fighters in all of Britain, with the lanky super-middleweight long being considered a champion-to-be in the near future.
Down at middleweight, Sheeraz boxed to a draw with WBC champion Carlos Adames in February of 2025, a result that most observers believed should have been a loss for Sheeraz.
The Ilford man promptly put on 8 pounds in weight and moved up a division, venturing to America to fold the brash and loud-talking Edgar Berlanga in half.
That was just under 9 months ago, and Sheeraz will be getting his second title shot when he faces Alem Begic for the vacant WBO super-middleweight belt on the 23rd of May.
That fight will be the co-main event to the WBC heavyweight title contest between Oleksandr Usyk and Rico Verhoeven, a Riyadh Season event taking place at the Pyramids of Giza.
While Sheeraz is a Riyadh Season ambassador, it was thought by some that we wouldn’t be seeing the Briton on a Riyadh event again, considering he fights under Queensberry Promotions, who recently launched legal action against Sela and TKO (two groups heavily involved in events with Riyadh Season and Turki Alalshikh).
Now, in an interview with Boxing King Media, Spencer Brown (promoter and founder of Gold Star Promotions) has explained how Sheeraz’s appearance on the Riyadh card came about despite the friction going on with his promoters.
“Obviously, Hamzah was gonna fight [Diego] Pacheco or [Christian] Mbilli, or one of those. Unfortunately, the Pacheco fight fell through. The Mbilli fight we think will go to Canelo [Álvarez], and he was left out in a bit of a wilderness because of that, and nobody really wanted to fight him,” said Brown, “but this German kid’s [Alem Begic] stood up–you know–they’ve been ordered to fight for the WBO super-middleweight title, and Hamzah’s in camp, and he’s lookin’ forward to it. And he’s gonna be a real force, Hamzah Sheeraz. A real force.”
Brown finished with, “And of course, it’ll be–he’s fightin’ in the Egypt card, the pharaoh card–you know–but he’s still got his same promoters, and they’ve managed to do a deal, and we’re all rarin’ to go and ready to go.”
