Son of British legend announces promotional switch.
‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed was the flashiest, most entertaining fighter in British boxing history. From his ringwalks to his fights, he never failed to deliver in any capacity.
A long-reigning featherweight champion who defended his world title 15 times, Hamed possessed power that you so rarely see in the lower weights, and he performed some of the most swift and violent finishes in the history of the division.
His cocky and confident nature very much made him a Marmite type of figure, but he has nonetheless inspired some of the biggest names in combat sports.
Much has been said of Hamed and his career over the years, and he finds himself in the spotlight once again thanks to the recent release of “Giant”, a film that concerns the relationship between him and his trainer Brendan Ingle.
Since the conclusion of his career, Hamed hasn’t made too many public appearances, something that contrasts with his ever-present nature in his fighting prime.
But just because Naseem Hamed himself no longer fights doesn’t mean that the Hamed name will no longer be involved in boxing. Far from it, in fact.
Indeed, Sami Hamed (Naseem Hamed’s son) has fought twice on Misfits Boxing, winning both fights by stoppage. He has now revealed that he has signed with a new promotional outfit.
Specifically, Sami Hamed has signed with Queensberry Promotions, owned by Hall-of-Fame promoter Frank Warren.
Warren promoted Naseem Hamed throughout the majority of his career, and he also currently promotes Aadam Hamed (Naseem’s younger son), who Sami will be joining under the Queensberry roof.
Sami Hamed has stated that the deal he has signed is for three years, and he will be making his debut in a professional contest under the Marquess of Queensberry Rules with the stable.
