Skye Nicolson calls for undisputed after dominant points victory

Skye Nicolson was a dominant points victor today, with all three scorecards reading 100-89 x3.

Today marked the beginning of a new chapter for Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn.

It was the first of 7 fights a year in Australia under their new agreement with Foxtel.

Wednesday night boxing was brought to Melbourne with Skye Nicolson (16-1, 3ko’s) defeating Mariah Turner (12-2, 6ko’s) in a shutout points victory.

Exciting heavyweight Teremoana Teremoana (11-0, 11ko’s) was the pick of the undercard.

The charismatic heavyweight made it 9 consecutive first round knockouts, and a major step up is likely to be next.

Australia has been a market that Matchroom Boxing have targeted over recent years.

This deal with Foxtel brings boxing onto mainstream television in Australia.

Alongside the heavyweights Teremoana Teremoana and Justis Huni (13-1, 7ko’s), Skye Nicolson is one of Matchroom’s highest profile Australian stars.

The 30 year old southpaw is the WBC interim world super-bantamweight champion, and mandatory to Ellie Scotney (12-0).

Born and raised in South London, Scotney became undisputed super-bantamweight world champion at the start of April.

With Matchroom and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) now having a brilliant working relationship, could this be next?

Speaking after her victory today, Nicholson stated: “I want super fights, I want undisputed, I was born for the big stage”.

“Ellie Scotney, I’m next in line, let’s make it happen,”.

“I know you’ve been at 122 for a long time, but come one, have one more fight.”

Eddie Hearn has labelled the fight as “one of the best fights in women’s boxing”.

Nicolson lived and trained out of the UK for a number of years.

Whether this is a headline fight for MVP on Sky Sports, or a major attraction for Matchroom’s push on Foxtel in Australia is yet to be seen.

Or could Scotney move up in weight, leaving the WBC title vacant?
