The American is the subject of serious allegations in recent lawsuit.
Deontay Wilder is set to fight Derek Chisora tomorrow night, and the heavyweight affair is one of the most interesting and anticipated shows on the boxing schedule.
And while we are less than 24 hours away from the bout, that has not stopped some late-notice drama from taking place.
Specifically, some very damning allegations have been levied against one half of the main event, and that one half is Wilder.
The American has been in the headlines recently for a story he told regarding his child and an ex of his in an appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncensored”, but now the child of a different ex has made some very serious claims about “The Bronze Bomber”.
Kerron Swift, the son of Wilder’s ex-fiancée Telli Swift, has filed a lawsuit against the former heavyweight champion, claiming that Wilder physically abused him for over ten years, going back to when he was a minor.
A document provided to the Daily Mail claims that in 2022, Wilder grabbed a 16-year-old Swift by the throat, lifted him in the air, slammed him into a wall, and threw him on a table “like a ragdoll”.
A separate incident in 2019 alleges that Wilder whipped Swift with a belt and slapped him so hard while in a car that Swift–who was only 13 at the time–hit his head on it.
Swift claims to have suffered both physical and psychological damage as a result of these supposed incidents, stating that he was left with bruises and long-term emotional trauma. In addition, he claims to have feared for his life at the time, convinced he was going to die.
The specific charges being aimed towards Wilder are battery, intentional affliction of emotional distress, assault, negligence, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and false imprisonment.
Paul Patterson, Wilder’s attorney, told TMZ that, “The timing of the lawsuit is suspicious, since Mr. Wilder fights in less than 48 hours.”
In a separate statement made to the Daily Mail, Patterson said, “It is clearly obvious this lawsuit and the timing of it was orchestrated and done by design to attempt to embarrass Mr. Wilder by levelling false allegations against him.
“He is well-known in our community as a loving and caring father who would never physically discipline his kids or anyone else’s children, and we look forward to defending this matter in a court of law.”
This matter likely won’t impact Wilder’s upcoming contest with Derek Chisora, but it appears he has a different battle on the horizon once his one in the ring has ended.
