Shakur Stevenson states he has agreed to fight Devin Haney

Stevenson states he has agreed to fight Haney.

When Zuffa Boxing signed Shakur Stevenson the other week, it marked the most significant signing of their short time in the sport.

When talking in terms of pure ability, there is not a long list of better fighters Zuffa could have gotten ahold of. So good was the signing, in fact, that many fans wondered just who Stevenson could face under the promotion.

That is because the American is regarded as one of the very, very best fighters in all of boxing. An undefeated four-weight world champion, the only ones The Ring rank above him in their top-ten pound-for-pound list are Naoya Inoue and Oleksandr Usyk.

So, within a stable that is still adding names to its roster, what competition exists for Stevenson? Well, people have their theories. However, the American has now stated that his debut under Zuffa will be a long-awaited superfight with Devin Haney.

Appearing on The Ariel Helwani Show, Stevenson was asked who his opponent for his first fight under Zuffa will be.

“They want Devin”, said Stevenson. “They want Devin, [as] far as I know. And if they want Devin, I’m down.”

Stevenson then stated that the discussed weight for the fight is 144 pounds. After saying that he’d actually signed for the fight, he then said, “I’m not gonna say ‘signed’, but I definitely verbally agreed that we’re gonna be fighting in October.”

Should this be true, it would be an all-American matchup of two of the most technically skilled fighters in the sport, a true elite-level chess match that hardcore fans will adore.
