Zuffa signs pound-for-pound star.
Zuffa Boxing is the proverbial new kid on the block when it comes to boxing promoters. The Dana White-owned company properly launched early this year and has caused quite the stir since.
What not many people would have expected is their signing of so many high-profile names, especially so quickly. A few months ago, their signings of Conor Benn and Jai Opetaia each came as shocks.
Since then, they have only continued to sign names of note, an increasing reminder of Zuffa’s growing influence and power in a market it is still very much new in.
Richardson Hitchins, Chris-Billam Smith, and Edgar Berlanga are just some of the others who now fight under the Zuffa banner. It is a list that only grows in size and meaning.
Because of Zuffa’s signing of a number of noteworthy names, some very big ones have also been tied to the promotion. Most recently, it was rumoured that they may be signing Tyson Fury after the star’s appearance at a UFC event.
That remains unsubstantiated for now. However, it must be said that Zuffa’s increasing profile has made signing with them seem much more meaningful than it previously did.
Now they have signed Shakur Stevenson, undoubtedly their best signing yet in terms of pure ability.
Stevenson is an undefeated four-weight world champion who currently sits at #3 on The Ring‘s top-ten pound-for-pound list, a supremely skilled technical fighter who exists at the very highest class of the sport.
Needless to say, it’s a terrific signing for Zuffa, and it will be interesting to see just where Stevenson can go under their roof.
