Sean O’Malley has called out Dana White over fighter pay in the aftermath of Conor Benn’s $15 million one fight deal with ZUFFA boxing.
Sean O’Malley is one of the UFC’s biggest stars.
Fighting out of Arizona, he built his early reputation with creative knockouts and precise counterpunching, using timing, distance control, and footwork to dismantle opponents.
O’Malley captured the UFC bantamweight title by defeating Aljamain Sterling, marking a major milestone in his career.
O’Malley remains a central figure in the UFC’s bantamweight division and one of MMA’s most marketable athletes.
Dana White and TKO have recently entered the sport of boxing, with the intention to replicate the UFC model in boxing with ZUFFA.
Recently, ZUFFA unveiled superstar Conor Benn as a new signing, with the Brit reportedly set to make $15 million for one fight.
Fighter pay in boxing has traditionally been significantly greater than in the UFC, regardless of viewing figures and attention.
Speaking on his own YouTube channel, O’Malley passionately discusses the payment differences between the UFC and ZUFFA.
Sugar Sean stated: “I don’t even know who Conor Benn is”.
“They really paid Conor Benn $15 million”.
“It’s crazy how you put so much work in the UFC, build this name, create this character, be this star”.
“I’m not making $15 million per fight”.
“It’s also business, they hate Oscar De La Hoya and Eddie Hearn, so he wants to take their biggest star”.
“I can see it being an ego thing”.
Unveiling Conor Benn last Friday sent shockwaves through boxing.
Eddie Hearn was the career long promoter of Benn, and was visibly distraught in the aftermath of the news.
The Matchroom Boxing Chairman has also discussed the fighter pay discrepancy between ZUFFA and the UFC numerous times, and believes that more fighters like O’Malley will not be happy with their contracts.
UFC’s monopoly on the sport will certainly make it difficult for fighters to demand change to the systems in place.
