S-Jam Boxing sign amateur standout

S-Jam Boxing announce new signing.

It’s always exciting when a British fighter does well in the amateurs, as it’s a sign that there are some great nights ahead in the professionals for the fans.

Under the right circumstances, a fighter can even make a big enough impression as an amateur that they have ready-made star power for when they turn over to the paid ranks.

We saw this when Amir Khan won the silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics and when Anthony Joshua won gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Because of these feats, both men had a lot of attention before they had even had a professional fight.

In more recent times, the amateurs who have turned over have not been as popular outside the immediate boxing circle.

Of those who appeared at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Delicious Orie had a single professional fight and retired, Lewis Richardson–the only one to medal–has yet to make a big impression as a professional, while Pat Brown has continued to make strides.

Well, while not an Olympian, S-Jam Boxing have announced the signing of a very well-regarded amateur.

Freddie Pullen was voted “Best Technical Boxer” at the Golden Gong in North Macedonia, having won the gold medal while also winning gold at the Haringey Box Cup, Barum Box Cup, and Enrique Rodríguez Box Cup over a four-month period.

The 22-year-old lightweight from West Ham fought Jermaine Dhliwayo and Nelson Birchall as an amateur, and he also scored a win over recent debutant Sam Norris.

Pullen will be mentored by Lerrone Richards, the former British, Commonwealth, European, and IBO super-middleweight champion.

The decorated amateur will be hoping to make a splash in the professionals and will be making his debut fairly soon.
