Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn officially announced

Garcia vs. Benn officially announced.

Ryan Garcia will officially defend his WBC welterweight title against Conor Benn on the 12th of September at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.

After much speculation, many rumours, and some speedbumps along the way, Garcia (25-2 (1), 20 KOs) will face Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) in a meeting of two of boxing’s most popular and controversial characters.

Announced earlier today following a recent run of strong teasing, the boxing world has been wondering when this clash would eventuate.

It arrives after an online spat between Garcia and Benn in the past few weeks, one that included Benn making a video message towards Garcia where the Briton questioned the American’s Mexican heritage while speaking in Spanish.

Garcia had openly voiced his support for Mexico in this year’s FIFA World Cup ahead of their game against England, even making a bet with Queensberry Promotions boss Frank Warren that England would win.

Of course, it was England who took home the victory, and Garcia will be hoping to get his own back when he takes on the Englishman in his home territory of the U.S in just under two months’ time.

Truly, a fight like this is about far more than just two men. It is a war of two of the most boxing-mad nations in the world. And in such a contest, everyone in the sport can expect the most passion and energy that pugilism can produce in enjoyers of the practice.
