Ryan Garcia retracts support for Donald Trump

American boxing star withdraws support of U.S. president.

Ryan Garcia is the type of character you will always have more material to write about. The American star is one of boxing’s most chaotic forces, a controversy magnet forever in the spotlight while everyone else is left in the darkness that surrounds it.

Originally an exciting prospect with a cracking left hook, Garcia has transitioned into a popular social media figure who makes the news for something he’s said more often than for anything he’s done in the ring.

It was for his online antics that he was “expelled” by the World Boxing Council in 2024, the cause being a few drunken Twitter rants too many.

Apart from this, Garcia’s other controversies have included him coming in overweight for a fight against Devin Haney, then proceeding to test positive for a performance-enhancing substance in two separate tests after many times rocking and thrice dropping his opponent. This resulted in a one-year suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission.

Garcia recently came to attention for his behaviour during the launch press conference for his upcoming world title fight against Mario Barrios, branding his former trainer Joe Goossen a “traitor” for having left him to join Barrios’s team.

But it was on Saturday that Garcia came to more attention for a Tweet he made, this time relating to Donald Trump and the recent release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Much like Garcia, the current president of the United States is a highly divisive individual, and speaking on his personal Twitter profile, the soon-to-be world title challenger stated, “This is my public declaration and announcement: I’m reclining [sic] my past support for Donald Trump.”

This change in stance from Garcia relates to Trump’s association with the previously mentioned Epstein, with the boxer ending his statement with, “Justice for all”.
