Ryan Garcia announces next fight live on The Tonight Show

Ryan Garcia has announced his first defence of his WBC welterweight world championship on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

After a turbulent couple of years, Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20ko’s) is well and truly back at the top of the sport.

Failed VADA tests, a no contest, a 12 month suspension, and a crushing defeat to Rolly Romero, many wondered if there was a way back for the highly talented American.

However, a shot at WBC welterweight gold against Mario Barrios came up, and the rest is history.

A dominant 12 round performance saw Garcia become world champion for the very first time.

In a stacked division, the  big money opportunities are endless, and it seems all systems are a go for a major first defence of his title.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Garcia revealed:

“We are fighting September 12, in Las Vegas”.

“And the opponent, let’s just say, he’s from the other side, across the pond”.

“His name is Conor Benn, and he’s been talking a lot”.

Conor ‘The Destroyer’ Benn has been for right or wrong the most talked about British fighter over recent years.

Last year saw Benn move up to middleweight to handle a family feud affair, fighting Chris Eubank Jr twice.

Whilst these two fights transcended into the mainstream, his ultimate goal has always been to become WBC world champion.

Despite not fighting at welterweight for four years, the man residing out of Essex is number one and mandatory with the WBC.

Benn began his journey back down to championship weight last month, defeating Regis Prograis at a 150lbs catchweight.

Both fighters have outspoken personalities, and both have fan friendly exciting fighting styles.

In what is likely to be a Ring Magazine spectacle, Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn for the green and gold will be huge!
