Roy Jones Jr slams Zuffa Boxing and Dana White in passionate speech

Roy Jones Jr has spoke out on Dana White and Zuffa Boxing’s plans to monopolise the sport of boxing, similarly to the UFC.

Since Dana White and TKO announced Zuffa Boxing, the criticism it has received from existing parties in the boxing world has been major.

Why’s that?

The long term goal is to replicate the UFC model that has monopolised the sport of mixed martial arts.

This gives one entity full control of the market, something that certainly is not the case in boxing traditionally.

Multiple promoters, multiple broadcasters, and multiple governing bodies is what is so unique about the sport, and few are more qualified to talk about this than Roy Jones Jr.

The all time great became an undisputed light heavyweight world champion in 2001, unifying all of the belts.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Roy Jones Jr has passionately shared his thoughts on Zuffa’s plans.

Jones Jr stated: “Talent, skill, hard-work, all those things should determine who is the best, not have to kiss their ass to get a shot at the best”.

“Most of the people around too idiotic to understand what is really happening”.

“They don’t understand. By the time they get it, it’s already too late… We’re going to kill the history of boxing to make it look like the UFC?”.

“It’s great money, but it wont be great money tomorrow”.

“There will be no such thing as WBC, WBO, WBA and IBF champion no more”.

“History is going to be erased”.

“Four belt era champion, that will be gone now, and that’s what we want in boxing?”.

With rumours circulating that pound for pound stars Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney are in lengthy discussions to join Zuffa, this highlights the financial power.

Dana White said from the off to judge them by their body of work at the end of 2026.

Whilst the shows so far have only been at the META Apex, it seems things are about to pick up.
