Former UFC champion will be returning under MVP.
Ronda Rousey will be making her return to professional mixed martial arts for the first time in over nine years.
The combat sports legend reigned as the women’s bantamweight champion of both Strikeforce and the UFC, becoming the first woman to appear in the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings.
Undefeated throughout almost her entire career, Rousey would lose her title by one of the most iconic knockouts in UFC history to Holly Holm in 2015.
Rousey would return over a year later, but was very quickly stopped by Amanda Nunes in a challenge for her old title.
Rousey has taken part in other contact sports, too. She competed in judo in both the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games (the former of which she won a medal for), and she was also very successful in the WWE.
She will now be returning to MMA to fight Gina Carano.
Carano also competed in professional mixed martial arts, but not in the UFC. She fought for the now-defunct EliteXC and Strikeforce. She would challenge Cris Cyborg for Strikeforce’s women’s featherweight championship in 2009, where she was stopped in the first round.
That was the last time Carano ever fought. She has since gone on to act in several major productions, including 2016’s Deadpool, Fast & Furious 6, and the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
The 39-year-old Rousey and 43-year-old Carano will be fighting live on Netflix under Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions on the 16th of May at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California, United States.
This marks the first venture into MMA for both Netflix and MVP, and it will be a clash between two of the biggest trailblazers for women’s mixed martial arts in history.
Two MMA legends are coming to Netflix.
