Rolly Romero continues to fire shots at Devin Haney as the WBA welterweight champion shares his thoughts on Ryan Garcia vs Devin Haney.
Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero (17-2, 13ko’s) holds a piece of the crown in one of the sports most lucrative divisions.
Last year, Romero upset the odds to become WBA welterweight world champion, defeating Ryan Garcia convincingly.
Despite this, the man from Nevada is coming up to 12 months of inactivity.
For so long it seemed potential mega fights against Manny Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39ko’s) or Conor Benn (24-1, 14ko’s) were in the pipeline.
But with Pacquiao fighting Mayweather and Conor Benn signing with ZUFFA Boxing, Romero is still yet to defend his belt.
Recently, a war of words between Rolly and fellow welterweight champion Devin Haney (33-0, 15ko’s) has ensued.
Sources suggest that each parties respective teams are involved in negotiations for a unification bout.
However, the fight at welterweight that fight fans are desperate to be revisited is Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia.
A rivalry that started a long time, Haney and Garcia fought 6 times in the amateurs, with the score ending 3-3.
Their fight in the pro ranks was pure chaos from start to finish.
Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20ko’s) weighed in three pounds over the 140lbs limit for their fight in 2024.
This is not where the controversy ended though.
Garcia did what no man has previously done, defeating Devin Haney via majority decision, well so he thought.
In the aftermath, Garcia failed a VADA test for a banned substance named Ostarine.
The fight was then immediately ruled a no contest, and the man from California served a 12 month suspension.
Now back and seemingly to his best, Ryan Garcia is now the WBC welterweight champion.
Former opponent of Garcia, Rolly Romero stated on The Last Stand Podcast:
“Ryan has Devin’s number, if they fought 100 times Ryan would knock him out 100 times”.
