The Mexican will have to wait a little while longer for his return to the ring.
Canelo Alvarez has not fought since losing his WBO, WBC, IBF and WBA super-middleweight titles to Terence Crawford last September.
When Crawford retired in December and vacated the titles, Christian Mbilli was then elevated from WBC interim champion to full champion the following month.
Mbilli has since penned a deal to defend the strap against Canelo at the top of a ‘Mexico vs the World’ card in Riyadh on September 12.
But in the latest report by The Ring Magazine, the world title fight has been moved to October.
Canelo vs Mbilli will now form part of the Riyadh Season 2026-2027 schedule.
While the exact date has yet to be confirmed, Boxing King Media will share updates in due course.
Why has Canelo Alvarez vs Christian Mbilli been postponed?
Reports from The Ring Magazine suggest a showdown between Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn is close to being finalised.
Canelo may have been removed from the September 12 date to clear the path for the hotly anticipated fight.
Garcia had long been promised the date and is keen to headline a Las Vegas event.
The match-up is expected to be a major event across both the US and UK markets, and could also land on streaming platform Netflix.
