Rescheduled date revealed for Dalton Smith vs. Alberto Puello

Rescheduled Smith vs. Puello date officially unveiled.

Last month was to be the occasion that Dalton Smith would make the very first defence of his WBC super-lightweight title, the strap he so magnificently won early this year when he travelled to America to dispatch of Subriel Matías.

It was to be a homecoming for Sheffield’s newest world champion, and his first foe as titleholder was to be no easy task. Smith would be defending his belt against Alberto Puello, the man who previously held the trinket before so narrowly losing it to Matías.

If Smith won, it would have been a further confirmation of his world-level credentials, and the fact that plenty believed he wouldn’t made the prospect of that victory all the more exciting.

However, before “Thunder” struck, disaster did, as Smith was ruled out of the clash with an elbow injury in late April, cancelling the headliner entirely.

Things went from bad to worse when the unified flyweight title fight between Galal Yafai and Ricardo Sandoval (which had been bumped up to main event) was also pulled from the card, leaving Josh Padley vs. Aqib Fiaz as the clash to top the bill.

And while Padley and Fiaz waged a terrific war, there was no forgetting just what boxing fans had lost, and the only remedy was to reschedule Smith vs. Puello.

Thankfully, we now have confirmation that that will indeed take place, and we have the date to go along with it.

The fight will go down on the 24th of October in Sheffield, with the exact venue not yet confirmed. But no matter what, it means a title fight will be taking place on U.K. shores, and those are always special occasions.
