Muratalla vs. Conceicao title fight officially announced.
The Lamont Roach Jr. vs. William Zepeda card has been bolstered with a world title fight as the chief support, meaning both the main and co-main event will feature a major trinket on the line.
The bout that has been added is Raymond Muratalla (24-0, 17 KOs) vs. Robson Conceicao (21-3-1 (1), 10 KOs), a lightweight clash for the IBF world championship.
Titleholder Muratalla was upgraded to champion from interim status when Vasiliy Lomachenko retired almost exactly a year ago.
Since then, Muratalla has legitimised his claim as world champion by defeating the highly regarded former Olympic gold medallist Andy Cruz in January of this year, a fight the Californian proved many people wrong in.
In Conceicao, he will be fighting another former winner of Olympic gold, and the Brazilian will be receiving another of several title shots.
The 37-year-old lost a bid for the WBC super-featherweight title against Oscar Valdez in 2021, then came up short against Shakur Stevenson for the unified championship of the same division a year later.
Conceicao was deemed unlucky to have to settle for a draw against Emanuel Navarrete for the WBO title at the end of 2023, but then deemed extraordinarily lucky to win the WBC title in a 2024 decision over O’Shaquie Foster.
He would rematch Foster later that year and lose by decision. And ever since, he has put together two wins over Venezuelan opposition in his home country.
Muratalla and Conceicao will be clashing on the 1st of August when they appear as the penultimate attraction at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
