Queensberry Promotions to return to Ireland

Queensberry to stage another Irish show.

On the 14th of March, Queensberry Promotions staged the WBA super-featherweight title fight between Jazza Dickens and Anthony Cacace at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.

There were impressive performances throughout the card, as Eoghan Lavin stopped Liam Walsh and Steven Cairns took out Arnie Dawson. There was also a destructive debut for 20-year-old heavyweight Adam Olaniyan.

And while Cacace would get the decision over Dickens to become a two-time champion in the headliner, it was likely a separate fight that became the subject of discussion afterwards.

In the co-main event, hometown fighter Pierce O’Leary took on Yorkshire’s Maxi Hughes for the vacant IBO super-lightweight title.

Hughes was a very difficult operator and was a late replacement for Mark Chamberlain, who had pulled out due to injury.

It was anticipated to be a very difficult night’s work for O’Leary. However, it would prove to be anything but, as Hughes was battered, assaulted, and torn through in five rounds.

It was a terrific performance from the 26-year-old “Big Bang”, and it left many excited about his future potential.

Well, it seemingly won’t be long until O’Leary (19-0, 11 KOs) gets the opportunity to shine again, as he is reportedly set to headline a Queensberry bill once more at Dublin’s 3Arena on the 1st of August.

It is expected that the show will also feature returning names in Steven Cairns (14-0, 9 KOs), Adam Olaniyan (1-0, 1 KO), Bobbi Flood (1-0, 1 KO), and Jono Carroll (26-3-1, 7 KOs).

O’Leary’s opponent has yet to be confirmed, but a rescheduled clash with Chamberlain has been on everyone’s minds since his showing in March.

An official announcement on the card (as well as O’Leary’s dance partner on the night) is thought to be releasing sometime this week.
