Garner vs. Magnesi undercard officially announced.
On the 20th of June, Southampton will see hometown hero Ryan ‘The Piranha’ Garner in action when he faces Michael Magnesi for the WBC interim super-featherweight title.
The winner of the fight will become the mandatory challenger for the full WBC championship, which will be fought for when O’Shaquie Foster defends it against Raymond Ford at the end of this month.
Already announced for the undercard was an intriguing bout between former British and Commonwealth champion Lewis Edmondson and former Commonwealth and IBO champion Lyndon Arthur, who meet at light-heavyweight.
But Queensberry Promotions have now announced the rest of the show’s supporting cast, and there are a number of interesting contests for fans to enjoy.
The first of these is Brad Pauls (21-2-1, 12 KOs) vs. Bradley Goldsmith (15-1, 10 KOs), a middleweight encounter for the IBF international title.
Pauls is the former Southern Area, English, and British champion who has fought the likes of Denzel Bentley, Nathan Heaney, Tyler Denny, and Ryan Kelly. Last time out, he scored a stoppage over the unbeaten Shakiel Thompson in a fight he was way behind on the cards in.
Goldsmith’s most notable contest was a challenge against Troy Coleman for the Midlands Area title, a fight Goldsmith lost by 7th-round TKO. Since then, he has rebounded with three straight wins.
Next is a super-middleweight affair between Taylor Bevan (8-0, 8 KOs) and Ryszard Lewicki (12-3-3, 5 KOs).
Bevan is a heavy-handed prospect who has looked like the type of man nobody wants to fight, having never been beyond the 6th round.
Lewicki is a Polish-born operator who made it to the final of the GBM super-middleweight tournament last year, becoming the Central Area champion and beating the undefeated trio of Dexter Makaza, Ellis Steward, and Taz Nadeem.
However, in the final, Lewicki would be stopped in the first round by James Osborne. And most recently, he lost a points decision to Red Johnson for the Central Area title.
He previously challenged Reece Farnhill for the English title and will be up against it when he faces Bevan, who has made a habit of dispatching experienced foes.
Also on the bill is an appearance from Georgia’s 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Lasha Guruli (3-0, 1 KO), who faces Liam Dillon (16-5-1, 3 KOs).
Guruli has beaten experienced opponents with winning records in all of his contests, and Dillon will be his toughest test yet. A holder of multiple regional belts at super-featherweight, Dillon has become known as one of the toughest men in British boxing.
With all of his losses being decisions to Reece Bellotti, headliner Ryan Garner, Pierce O’Leary, Ahmed Hatim, and Zelfa Barrett, Dillon is a gritty campaigner with an iron chin. He will look to provide Guruli with a hard night’s work and upset the touted Georgian.
Lastly, Charlie Senior (4-0, 2 KOs) will be taking up a slot on the card, and so will Irish heavyweight Adam Olaniyan (1-0, 1 KO).
Senior is a Bradford-born super-featherweight who won Olympic bronze for Australia, while Olaniyan is a 6’6″ 20-year-old who made his professional debut two months ago to much fanfare.
