Promoter rules out trilogy fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury

The Ukrainian superstar has yet to announce his next fight.

Oleksandr Usyk is gearing up for one last dance before he is expected to bow out of the sport.

Having vacated his WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight world titles last week, attention turned to what Usyk has planned to bring his illustrious career to an end.

While some believed a trilogy with Tyson Fury could be on the cards, Sergey Lapin, the CEO of Usyk’s promotional company Ready To Fight, has dismissed the idea.

Lapin told Sky Sports: “I don’t really see much point in it.

“Oleksandr has already beaten Tyson Fury twice and answered every question inside the ring.

“I believe that chapter is closed, and today that fight no longer carries the same level of interest.”

Wilder seems the most likely opponent for Usyk to pursue at this stage, as the rivals have both expressed an interest in sharing the ring.

Their match-up would most likely take place in the United States.

Usyk, however, still hopes to fight one last time in his homeland.

The former Olympic champion has been unable to do so since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Lapin explained: “Saudi Arabia and the United States are both outstanding venues for major events.

“But if we’re talking about a dream, it would undoubtedly be Ukraine.”
