Professional boxer charged with attempted murder

12-1 professional boxer and former professional footballer has been jailed and charged for attempted murder along with three others.

A professional boxer by the name of Paddy Lacey (12-1, 2ko’s) has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.

The former footballer turned to professional boxing in 2021, with his first career defeat occurring just two weeks ago on the undercard of Nick Ball vs Brandon Figueroa at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

Paddy Lacey was on the books of both Manchester United and Liverpool as a youth.

Lacey has played for a number of teams as a senior including Barrow and Accrington Stanley.

His brother is current Manchester United starlet Shea Lacey.

Shea made his first team debut in 2025 as a substitute in a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

The 32-year-old is accused of attempted murder; conspiracy to murder; possession of a shotgun and ammunition with intent to endanger life; Section 18 GBH; and conspiracy to cause GBH.

Three other men – John Aaron Jones, 35, John George Patrick Hughes, 31, and Bernard Flynn, 61 – are charged with the same alleged offences.

All four will appear at Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens Adult Remand Court today.

Detective Inspector Chris Clark from our Firearms Investigation Team said: “These coordinated warrants were carried out as part of an ongoing investigation, and all four men will appear in court today.

“Our work continues, so I would ask that people who have yet to come forward still do so. Please do not assume that we already hold information.

“Our team will make that assessment, and will take the appropriate action. Whether you have a first-hand account, dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or other footage, come forward.”
