Former undisputed world champion and a pound for pound boxing star is set to return to the ring on the undercard of Usyk vs Verhoeven.
Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15ko’s) facing kickboxing star Rico Verhoeven (1-0, 1ko’s) was not on anyone’s agenda.
The location makes this spectacle all the more bizarre, the fight will take place at the pyramids of Giza, bringing big time boxing to Egypt.
On May 23rd, the Ukrainian’s WBC world heavyweight championship will be on the line, which has certainly sparked controversy.
It has landed on DAZN, as a Ring Magazine event.
No undercard fights have been officially announced as of yet, but the rumour mill has certainly started circling.
Previously reported by Boxing King Media, former world champion Jaime Munguia (45-2, 35ko’s) has been reported for a return to the ring on the bill.
The latest fighter set to feature is former undisputed world champion and pound for pound star Dmitry Bivol (24-1, 12ko’s).
2025 started in the perfect way for the slick combination puncher, defeating Artur Beterbiev (21-1, 20ko’s) via majority decision to become the undisputed light heavyweight world champion.
In a fight for the boxing purists, Bivol put in a coming of age performance.
The remainder of 2025 involved injuries and recovery for the Russian.
His WBC world title has been vacated to David Benavidez (31-0, 25ko’s).
Despite being fit and firing once again, Bivol must take care of a mandatory challenger first before any potential mega fights.
Dan Rafael has reported that Dmitry Bivol vs Michael Eifert is being finalised to take place on May 23rd in Egypt on the Oleksandr Usyk vs Rico Verhoeven event.
Michael Eifert (13-1, 5ko’s) has patiently waited for this opportunity.
His last outing was in August 2024 in his homeland of Germany.
Undoubtedly, Bivol will be a landslide favourite with the bookies, and victory will open the gates for a potential Beterbiev trilogy or a move to cruiserweight which Bivol has previously mentioned.
