Planned Dalton Smith vs. Alberto Puello undercard revealed

Planned Smith vs. Puello undercard bouts revealed.

Dalton Smith was seen as one of the best young contenders in British boxing for a while. Scoring a series of brutal knockouts coming up, his power was very much proven at the domestic level.

However, he hadn’t proven himself on the world stage…until the 10th of January, that is.

That was the night Smith travelled to America to dispense punishment upon Subriel Matías and become the WBC super-lightweight champion.

In his first defence of the title, Smith will be dealing with mandatory challenger Alberto Puello, who previously held the belt he will be battling Smith for before losing it in a razor-thin decision to Matías last year.

And to make Smith’s homecoming as champion even more special, Matchroom Boxing have plans for an absolute doozy of an undercard.

While nothing beyond the main event has been officially announced, we know of several fights that are planned for the show.

The first is Galal Yafai (9-0 (1), 7 KOs) vs. Ricardo Sandoval (27-2, 18 KOs) for the WBC and WBA flyweight world titles.

Yafai recently had his loss to Francisco Rodríguez Jr. overturned to a no-contest, as the Mexican tested positive for several banned substances. Yafai would be challenging for the unified championship in his first fight back.

Sandoval would be making the first defence of the titles he won in an oh-so-close decision over Kenshiro Teraji in Japan. A fight such as this could be its own headliner, yet it is reportedly to be the co-main event to Smith vs. Puello.

Elsewhere on the card, Josh Padley (18-1, 6 KOs) is believed to be making the first defence of his European super-featherweight title against Aqib Fiaz (14-1, 2 KOs).

Last time out, Padley dominated Jaouad Belmehdi to win his belt, while Fiaz scored a contentious decision over Alex Murphy. Fiaz had been scheduled to fight Jordan Flynn on the Moses Itauma vs. Jermaine Franklin undercard, but was forced to pull out.

Lastly, Ibraheem Sulaimaan (10-0, 5 KOs) is expected to be challenging Ibrahim Nadim (16-1, 2 KOs) for the English super-featherweight championship.

That is the last of the rumoured bill. However, more will be revealed when the card is officially unveiled.

Smith and Puello will do battle on the 6th of June at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England.
