His emotional celebration was dedicated to one of British boxing’s most beloved figures.
Pat Brown defeated John Hedges to win the vacant British and Commonwealth cruiserweight titles this weekend.
The 26-year-old moved to seven professional wins, with every victory coming inside the distance.
In doing so, he added the Lonsdale Belt to his collection of WBA International and IBF Intercontinental titles.
It was a vicious hook to the body that ultimately dropped Hedges to one knee in the sixth round.
He regained his feet, but Brown struck again moments later with another devastating body shot.
Hedges could not beat the count, sealing an emotional and significant victory for Brown.
He dedicated his triumph to British boxing legend Ricky Hatton, who tragically died one year and five days earlier.
Referring to Hatton’s famous trademark attacks, Brown said post-fight: “I finished him with a body shot in memory of him.”
He continued on DAZN: “I can’t just go bulldozing in with him, people think you can’t box.
“With John, you’re not going to get him out of there straight away because he’ll just make you miss and make you look silly.
“That’s why it was a patient performance.”
